Settlement Reached in Lil Peep Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The settlement in Lil Peep’s wrongful death lawsuit has brought some closure for the late rapper’s mother, Lisa Womack. The lawsuit had been ongoing since 2018 when Womack filed a lawsuit against Lil Peep’s management team, First Access Entertainment (FAE), alleging negligence, wrongful death, and breach of contract. Womack claimed that FAE and Lil Peep’s former manager and tour manager had enabled and facilitated her son’s drug use and pushed him to perform when he was not in a state to do so.

While the terms of the settlement have not been disclosed, Womack’s lawyer, Paul Matiasic, stated that “Liza has been indefatigable in her pursuit of justice for her son.” Matiasic also said that with the lawsuit concluded, Womack’s focus will now shift to continuing to release Lil Peep’s music for his fans and ensuring his legacy.

Lil Peep, whose real name is Gustav Elijah Åhr, passed away in 2017 at the age of 21 due to a drug overdose. His death shocked the music industry and his fans, who mourned the loss of an artist known for his introspective lyrics and blending of various genres.

In the wake of Lil Peep’s passing, his music has continued to reach a wider audience, with posthumous releases and re-releases of his self-released material. In 2018, Come Over When You’re Sober, Pt. 2, was released, followed by the compilation album Everybody’s Everything in 2019.

The settlement between Womack and FAE was reached on February 14, and a trial that had been scheduled for March 8 was avoided. In a statement posted on Lil Peep’s official Instagram account, his family expressed their gratitude to fans, friends, professionals, and family who stood by them during the past five-plus years. They also stated that they would continue to release Lil Peep’s music and protect his legacy.

Overall, the settlement of the lawsuit marks the end of a long and difficult legal battle for Womack and Lil Peep’s family. While the terms of the settlement remain confidential, it is clear that Lil Peep’s music will continue to reach his fans and that his legacy will live on.
