As an artist who started in Salem Massachusetts, we wanted to know how GiGi K started in the Hip Hop scene and what inspired her to pursue a music career. GiGi K said
“I always felt connected with music in some way. Just felt like music was always a part of me. From talent shows and local performances, the energy and reactions I get from my audience always made me feel like this was met for me. The crowd always went wild once I performed and after I performed. It was just this rush I always got before hitting the stage and after.”
Salem Massachusetts has a vibrant music culture. GiGi K explains how the city and local scene influence the musical style, GiGi K said
“Growing up in Salem helped me understand what people look for in music & helped me figure out how can I connect with my city in my music. My city influenced me in writing party music. Because every summer we had the Point poppin with all different styles of music. That made me realize if people can be entertained like this I could also do it as well.” A unique element GiGi K brings to her music is relaxation, GiGi K said “You can be a whole gang member and still bump that GiGi K. There’s a lot of different types of groups in my city that I never knew my music had that much of an effect on them.”
GiGi K’s Anticipation for her Upcoming Album
GiGi K has an album dropping in June 2024, We asked GiGi K what was the creative process behind the album and what message she hopes her fans take away from it. GiGi K said
” The creative process behind this album was my experience with women. I never had much luck.. hahaha but the album explains how I wanna treat a lady and what a lady needs. Hopefully, my album can help advise people who wanna talk to that girl but in the right way. it’s like my album is the Bible of LOVE.”
Collaborations have become a significant aspect of the music industry. GiGi K has collaborated with a lot of artists like Lib, Lo, GetMoneyManny, Kaddy Smoov & More! They’re from different areas of Massachusetts and some out of Massachusetts. GiGi K said,
” Working with those artists has helped my career a lot just because our fanbase collides and they just keep growing and growing.”
Many Hip Hop artists use their music to address social issues and advocate for change. We asked GiGi K what specific cause or message she feels passionate about conveying through her music, GiGi K said
” The LBTQ community is still facing some issues in the music scene and tryna feel comfortable with talking about the same sex or other things. Eventually, we as a community will break that wall. I hope that my music helps the community by talking about the same sex and talking about how I don’t like men and how women should be treated by women if a man can’t do it right. So I hope that my music will help people just like me talk more about their sexuality. It’s not easy but I hope I’m one of those people that can help change it.”
Overcoming Industry Challenges
The journey to success in the music industry can be challenging. GiGi K explains the obstacles she faces along the way and what she did to overcome them, GiGi K said
” Being an independent artist with no label behind you is one of the toughest things I ever had to face, as long as I keep my head up and stay focus and invest in myself I can make anything possible even if I feel like I can’t. I had to build my own solid team and the right people with the same mindset as me to make this work. At first, it wasn’t easy but now the second time around I got it down.”
Salem’s Hip Hop scene is known for its diversity. We wonder how she incorporates various musical influences into her work and how she maintains authenticity while experimenting with different sounds, GiGi K said
” I try to connect with a lot of people so I explore all my sounds that I fit well in. My city is big in the reggae scene, Dancehall, rap and street rap. Growing up that’s what I was surrounded with when it came to music. When it comes to writing and listening to beats I always think about what would my people rock with back home. What best fits me so I can connect with my home people and their people going forward.”
GiGi k has been performing since she was 12 years old, so getting on stage isn’t all new to her. Gigi is going to tell us how she prepares herself for the live shows and what she enjoys most about connecting with her audience, GiGi K said
” How I always get ready for shows is I put on beats and I start freestyling to amp me up or practicing my music I’ll be performing & what I enjoy most about performing in front of an audience is the reactions the dancing the freedom I see that I create with my sound. It’s like once u turn me up it’s like a virus you can’t get rid of. My vibe is contagious.”
Salem has produced several notable hip-hop artists. We asked GiGi K how she sees herself contributing to the legacy of Salem’s music scene, GiGi K said
” I feel like with my story and the vibe I bring to my music, it will cause a big impact on people’s lives. Some of my music helps understand what you’re going through and some helps you wanna be happy instead of being sad sometimes and you just need some fun in your life.”
Future Goals and Aspirations
We wonder what GiGi K hopes to achieve in her career as an artist from her city, GiGi K said
” I just wanna teach people that no matter what you go through in life there’s a light at the end of the tunnel waiting for you and that light can be something that can change your life forever but as long as you stay positive and stay focus you can achieve anything in life. So if I keep that Moto and help people that wanna achieve their dreams I feel like I can leave a big impact in my city as an artist.”
